THE REAL FACTS:

Common Airborne Contaminants

1) Indoor air is found to be up to 70 times more polluted than outdoor air. (EPA) Commercially purchased fiberglass filters are only 7% efficient at stopping dirt, dust, pollen etc. from passing through. We recommend 74% electrostatic filters or 1 inch pleated filters for better dust and dirt removal. We recommend 4 inch pleated filters for higher filtration (90%) with minimal restriction of airflow, and for the best removal of dirt, dust and pollens we recommend an electronic air cleaner. While a bit more expensive, the Lennox Pure Air System seems to be the best at removing odors, and in conjunction with a U.V. light, mold is also removed. We do not recommend the 90% + electrostatic air filters you buy from a hardware store and the other non-licensed A.C. companies because it restricts air flow.

2) They keep the evaporator coils cleaner and thus reduces operating costs. Clean systems restore capacity and lessen running time. Translation: Savings on monthly heating/cooling bills. (LCES) A build up of .042" of dirt on a heating or cooling coil can result in a decrease in efficiency of 21%. (EPA).

How a Honeywell Electronic Air Cleaner Works
Two-stage electrostatic precipitation electrically charges air particles to create an effective method for capturing airborne contaminants.
Stage 1: Charging Section
Most large particles are caught on the prefilter screen
Smaller particles flow through the screen to the first section of the air cleaner cell, where they pass through a series of high-voltage ionizing wires---More than 8,000 volts---and become electrically charged.

Stage 2: Collector Section
Charged particles advance through the cell to the collecting section.
The charged particles are attracted like magnets to a series of oppositely charged collector plates.
